SUVs or sports utility vehicles are all you would see on the roads , no matter which corner of the globe you are in , they are big , burly , spacious , comfortable and everything a buyer with serious economics on their mind would expect to get for their money. But my problem isn’t with the Toyota Land Cruisers or the Jeeps running around, they were meant to be brilliant machines are set in a perfect market offering the perfect set of features. The issue is with ultra-luxury and performance automakers going forward with introducing SUVs , brands associated with the greatest cars ever made going on and producing cars which totally negate their statement , what they have stood for, what they have meant to the 9 year old kid, I am talking about how Lamborghini made an SUV, a jacked up on steriods version of their italian bull, more importantly they gave up their morals of never using a turbo-charger to using one in this cause there was no other way it would reach ballistic speeds. And about Bentley, the british ultra-luxury carmaker making the world’s costliest SUV , the W16 powered Bentayga which is basically a castle with 4 wheels. And therein lies the issue, these automakers aren’t supposed to be making SUVs, they are supposed to be making bloody costly supercars and limousines and not bulky family cars that can do a bit of off-roading.

The issue lies in the money actually, a the customer wants an SUV , they tend to shift away from the sedans and other form factors and this has resulted in low growth for these companies which are anyway small in scale in comparison to the giant automakers. Which has forced them to make these SUVs, this is nothing more than market control of a single product, from which companies have been minting money and those who haven’t have either been in losses or have shut shop which has left them with no alternatives but to go for the SUV option. It is my personal opinion that the SUV has ruined the automotive market and has resulted in the art being tainted. Brands like Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo , Rolls-Roye, Bentley, Jaguar even Tesla have taken up the SUV and has resulted in their models being the highest sold amongst their portfolio.
